1. Think about how you will use the Assessment page of your Digital Portfolio during your first teaching block. Provide 2 examples, writing 1 paragraph for each.
One way that I can use my assessment page during my first teaching block is to plan goals. On my AER form, I have already created a large number of goals - many of them are applicable to a setting where I am the classroom teacher, but numerous are applicable to me as a student teacher. I will be selecting one goal below to explore in Block 1, but if I feel I should pursue multiple goals, my AER form is the place to go.
Another way I will use the assessment page during my first teaching block is to gather resources. While developing my AER form over the last few weeks, I gathered many informative resources from many sources, ranging from the blogs of teachers to Ministry of Education documents. Through my first teaching block and beyond, I can go back to these sources to gather information and help me in my classroom experiences.
2. Choose one professional learning goal from your AER Strategy Form that you will explore in Block 1. Develop "I can" statements to identify how you will now you've reached your goal.
The goal I am choosing from my AER form to explore in Block 1 is "I want to make sure that when I conduct assessments, they are fair, use evidence, and are explained in a student-friendly fashion to that both parents and students can fully understand my conclusions.".
These would be my "I can" statements - my success criteria?
- I can explain why I have chosen a specific method of assessment
- I can explain what category (diagnostic, formative and summative) my assessment fits into
- If challenged by a colleague, I can consistently defend why I have reached a specific conclusion while assessing
- I can consistently create assessment materials which students understand (and I can tell this is the case because I can read the students the materials, and have them respond to questions about them!)
